You are probably reading this because you know me and you want to see just how narcissistic I can be, or you are researching who I am to decide if you would like to work with me.  Either way, read on.  Hopefully I’ll disappoint those seeking narcissism while impress those looking to work with me. This will be quite the balancing act. :-)

My name is Tim Freund.  Timothy is also acceptable, but Timmy is rarely appreciated.

I currently call Olathe, KS home, but I would really like to move some place with more character.  Kate and I have talked about finding a cool college town, or moving to the Pacific Northwest.  Locally, we have our eyes on the 39th Street area.  Here’s a real estate tip for you:  buy because you really, really like it, not because you like it some and "it’ll make a good investment property in a few years".

I have a day job as a computer programmer.  There I write as much Java, Python, and Ruby as they will let me in between mind numbing meetings and training.  The pay is good, and the stress is low.  It’s been a decent 6 years so far.

I started a side job back in September of 2003, and we are slowly picking up steam.  We write software in Python and Ruby using TurboGears and Ruby on Rails.  We have released a financial calculator, and a handful of Typo themes, but our primary focus is on software to support primary and secondary education administration.  We have a collection of other ideas brewing as well, but there are only so many hours in a day.  The goal with Digital Achievement is to employ ourselves with work that helps people and organizations grow in a healthy way toward a greater good of all.

Hobbies include cooking (and the requisite eating) and music.  I love cooking for small parties, especially anything grilled or sweet.   Recipes slowly trickle out in this journal, so keep an eye open if that interests you.  I consider myself a bit of a music snob, and I listen to almost any genre of music, although many forms of country and rap music make me cringe.  Music reviews happen here too, so that’s one more hook.  Occasionally I’ll pick up an instrument.  Usually that would be my Fender 5-String Jazz bass, or my Alvarez acoustic guitar.  I have lusted after an upright bass for years, and one day I’ll make one mine.

Back in 2004 I met Kate, and it wasn’t long before I was counting down until our one-year anniversary.  You see, I had a little rule that I wouldn’t consider engagement until I dated a girl for at least one year.  Fortunately she was as excited as I was about getting married when I finally proposed.  A mere six months after our May of 2005 engagement we got a dog together.  Tango keeps us moving, and she has certainly reduced my fear of most dogs to almost zero.  We started dancing together in March of 2005, and although the tango is not one of our favorites to dance, it made a good name for our four-legged child.

That seems like enough for now.  Perhaps some day I’ll write a little more about where I came from.  Until then you can always ask questions here.
